HANDMADE / SLOWMADE ESSENCE
I started this project years ago, but I feel increasingly connected to it, striving to convey the essence of this brand in each piece, whether purchased directly in person or delivered to your home after ordering online.
That's why I believe that, apart from the creative process behind the jewellery, it's extremely important to connect you with this slow-made essence in every detail, from the packaging and customer service to digital communication via the newsletter, for example, the website blog or social media posts, etc.
I carry out the process of making spoons and forks in my workshop on the island of Menorca. During this process, the order of the stages may vary, but generally the first thing is to design the piece (Sometimes this process occurs, for example, while walking down the street or watching a film, when I see someone wearing a piece of jewellery that inspires me or I see a shape that evokes a specific design. Other times it comes from playing with the shapes of deconstructed cutlery pieces on the workshop table. It is a process that has no specific form, and many other times the designs emerge from pencil drawings in my notebooks. Little by little, these ideas and sketches take shape as I bring them to life. development of the idea and creation of this, so that we can see and study its functionality and possible finishes.
THE DIFFERENT MANUFACTURING PROCESSES FOR EACH OF THE PIECES
During the creation of spoon or fork pieces, there are several very different working methods. Some more delicate and meticulous processes typical of a jeweller – soldering, setting stones, or working with smaller, more delicate pieces. The other type of work is more «rough» and is mainly done with a hammer and anvil., manual labour with which I shape the cutlery. These working processes were explained and passed on to me by my father; and then there is another type of work that requires accuracy Such as working with a forge to heat cutlery to a specific temperature, using a jigsaw or radial saw... And finally, there are other more automatic processes: such as sanding, polishing, cutting with a guillotine or drilling holes with a drill.
The versatility of these phases, combined with the rest of what it takes to lead a brand (marketing, strategy, social media content, storytelling, website, customer service, etc.), allows me to decide at any given moment when I prefer to work on that process. In this way, I choose work in a more mindful and present manner, choosing the type of task I want to carry out in relation to the energy I have available. In any artistic process, there are processes that require more inspiration than others, and the communication used when creating, writing or launching something is not the same.
